Goal setting is the first step to success. A goal is the result of an activity that is achieved through certain actions. This is the difference in status between where we are now and where we would like to be. This difference in status affects our actions and leads to success. Goals can be transitional and final, small and large, short-term and long-term, but it usually responds to what we are aiming for by doing certain targeted actions. Going to bed earlier is a purposeful action to be (target) better rested and fresher.
